Preparing for graduation or chilling?

My younger son is graduating in a couple of weeks. For his oral exams he should read a few books. When he sat on one of our four small balconies he said he would read and prepare. He put on his dark glasses and I guess it was so that I could not see whether he was 

a) recovering from a night out 

or 

b) really reading

or 

c) doing both. 

However, I caught the moment with these photos while sitting on the other balcony having - well, you guess - coffee and reading the newspaper.
