Louise Bourgeois

I am so very happy and energized to show you pictures of Louise Bourgeois' bronze sculpture Maman.
It is one of six replicas - the original being in London.
I am fascinated by this artist and her work since quite sometime.
I have seen her spider in Bilbao and just like then I felt excited to stand underneath and look up.
(It is 10 meters high and weighs 12 tons).
One feels somehow protected and at the same time scared.
I could not stop taking pictures! I will visit Maman again tomorrow and the day after tomorrow and...

The Fondation Beyeler in Basle is presenting her art from September 3, 2011 to January 8, 2012. This exhibition is a must! Don't miss it! By the way Maman remains in Berne till June 7,  from June 10 till end of July it is exposed in Zuerich and from mid-August in Geneva.

Find out more about Louise Bourgeois here, more facts about the exhibition in Basle here.

"The Spider is an ode to my mother. She was my best friend. Like a spider, my mother was a weaver. My family was in the business of tapestry restoration, and my mother was in charge of the workshop. Like spiders, my mother was very clever. Spiders are friendly presences that eat mosquitoes. We know that mosquitoes spread diseases and are therefore unwanted. So, spiders are helpful and protective, just like my mother."

I hope my post inspired you!
Happy Wednesday!
